Basic Eligibility


Bachelor of Veterinary Science  & Animal Husbandry  For admission into bachelor’s degree a student must have passed 10+2 with biology, chemistry and physics and he/she also needs to qualify the entrance test conducted by the concerned universities. Veterinary Council of India conducts an ‘All India Common Entrance Examination’ (AICEE) for admission to first year Bachelor of Veterinary Science  & Animal Husbandry  degree course. The duration for bachelor’s degree program varies from 4-5 years, including the period of internship.

Job Prospects

In the recent years there has been a fabulous growth and demand for veterinary doctors in the field of veterinary science. Veterinarians can opt to work with private and government veterinary hospitals, farms related to poultry, sheep and rabbit, animal husbandry clinics. Veterinary services are also required by the dairy research institutes.

The government also undertakes veterinarians as public health officers whose services are used in national parks, zoos and wildlife sanctuaries. The defense services also use animals such as dogs, camels, and horses etc which also require the services offered by a veterinarian. Veterinarians also have the option to join the field of research.

Those who are specialized in this field are required in the area of laboratory, pharmaceutical, drug manufacturing industries etc.

Pay Package: -

The pay scale of a veterinarian differs on the basis of his practice and the animals he treats. Fresh graduates in government veterinary hospitals and centers are appointed as junior veterinary surgeons. Their starting salary ranges from Rs.10,000 to Rs.15,000 per month.

A private practitioner earns Rs.40 to Rs.500 per patient, depending on his popularity, experience and the type of treatment provided to the animals. A assistant professor can earn a salary of Rs.15,000 to Rs.25,000.
